The
Prince Sultan Cardiac Center has established the pulmonary Hypertension
Program, which is known to be the very first program of its kind in the
Ministry of Health that was created and held outside the major cities. This
is another important milestone that continually adds to the many great
accomplishments achieved by the center considering that this program started
in 1435. It was deem necessary to put up this program in a region like
Al-Qassim. The center was completely prepared for this since it's
already equipped with large facilities, highly capable staffs,
specialized clinics in cardiology, congenital heart abnormal clinic, and
cardiac failure clinic.
In
addition, PSCCQ and the King Fahad Specialist Hospital are armed with
full capabilities to enable this program. They can provide advanced blood
tests and accurate diagnostic methods for successful operations such as
cardiac catheters and nuclear examination for respiratory efficiency.
The
Center Director, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mesnid pointed out that a medical
committee from all relevant specialties was formed and coordination was made
with Saudi Association for Pulmonary Hypertension to hold courses in
the region that will introduce this program and likewise, orient and educate
the medical staff. They also coordinated with the doctors of the Heart Center
in Hail to take part in this special program in order to facilitate the
possibility of coordination and transfer.
It
was reported that upon the establishment of the program, cases were received
from Arar, Al-Jouf, and Najran.
Dr.
Al-Mesnid also emphasized that a monthly clinic for pulmonary hypertension
will be held every first Thursday of the month at Prince Sultan Cardiac
Center Qassim accordingly, this will coordinate with all specialized clinics
in the region.
Furthermore,
he also stressed out that this particular program will conduct an annual
meeting to raise awareness of pulmonary arterial pressure within the Heart
Center in Al-Qassim as well as holding awareness sessions in the region's
hospitals such as King Saud Hospital in Unaizah, Al-Ras Hospital, and Al
Badaea General Hospital. They are also making the needed preparations to be
able to extend its sessions in Hail and Al Zulfi.
Moreover,
Dr. Al Mesnid also indicated that these activities are accredited with CME hours
by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. He explained that the
pulmonary hypertension is divided into five sections: (1) the primary Pulmonary
Hypertension, (2) the pulmonary hypertension associated with heart problems,
(3) pulmonary hypertension associated with lung disease, (4) the pulmonary hypertension
associated with pulmonary thrombosis and (5) the multiple hypertensions.
In
which case, he mentioned that the Prince Sultan Clinics in PSCCQ were more
concerned and focused on the first and fourth type because these two requires
special medications, unlike the 3 other types where patients can return to
public hospitals for treatment.
He
was also hoping that this program will ceaselessly bring tremendous success
in the treatment of patients and in the service of the people.
