PSCCQ ORGANIZES NURSING LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT COURSE

The Department of Education, Training, and Research of PSCCQ has organized a two- day activity entitled “the Nursing Leadership and Management Course” on May 16-17, 2017 at the PSCCQ Cardiology Conference Room. This was accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and was appropriately given 15 CME hours.

A total of fifty(50) participants were in attendance, consisting of Nurse Coordinator, Nurse Educators, Nurse Supervisor, Head Nurses, Clinical Instructors, and Nurses. Some of the participants came from Al Fereh Hospital.

Prior to the start of the lectures and discussions, Ms. Laila Abed Eddin, PSCCQ Deputy Nursing Director warmly acknowledged the participants in her welcome address and likewise gave an overview of the said course based on the course outline.

PSCCQ Nursing Director, Ms. Kahkashan Sana was the first to lecture about Effective Leaders and Managers and eventually facilitated the workshop on Leadership Styles. She emphasized that becoming an effective leader is not a one-time thing. It should be learned and practiced until it becomes a part of yourself.

Ms. Kahkashan Sana returned as the facilitator for the Team Building Workshop. In this activity, they were trained to create action plans that they can implement right away.  They were also led through some important exercises that will motivate everyone in the team to work and cooperate. 

Right then, Ms. Ma. Rosario Labiste, PSCCQ Coordinator of Education, Training, and Research discussed Effective Time Management. She pointed out the importance of managing and organizing the time. 

Ma. Laila Abed Eddin discussed the Project for Improvement-Performance Management and Action Plan Workshop. Furthermore, she also gave a lecture on Emotional Intelligence among Nurse Leaders and Managers. According to her, nurse leaders who are emotionally intelligent can communicate, collaborate, and can even make decisions in an interdisciplinary team environment and in situations that often can be stressful and chaotic.

 

On the second day of the course, Professor Raisa Begum Gul from Aga Khan University School of Nursing, Midwifery in Karachi, Pakistan thoroughly discussed Critical Thinking and Decision Making. She explained that critical thinking undergoes a process where one evaluates information on a given problem. Before reaching into a decision-making, one should also go into a process of reaching logical conclusions, solving problems, analyzing factual information, and taking appropriate actions based on the conclusions.

 

In continuation, Professor Raisa Begum Gul led the Critical Thinking and Decision Making Workshop. She also extended her facilitation by administering the Preceptorship and Orientation Program Workshop. She had guided them well and everyone was really satisfied with what have been taught to them,

 

All throughout the activity, everyone was thankful for having been a part of such a very substantive and informative program. Furthermore, PSCCQ Nursing Director, Ms. Kahkashan Sana extended her sincerest and warmest gratitude to everyone who has been a part of the activity especially the guest speaker who came all the way from Pakistan. Moreover, she was hopeful that all the participants had grasped other additional learning and hopefully, they will apply it in their respective careers that may possibly benefit the patients.
