PSCCQ HOLDS 2nd SECOND CONSCIOUS SEDATION COURSE

PSCCQ's Department of Education, Training and Research holds the 2nd Conscious Sedation Course last October 19-20, 2016 at PSCCQ Conference Room. This 2-day course was accredited  for 9 CME/PD hours by SCHS and it was headed by the Course Organizer, Dr. Mutasim Ahmad Hammad, Consultant Cardiac Anaesthesia and Head of Cardiac Anaesthesia.

Dr. Mutasim Ahmad Hammad was the very first speaker who lectured about the General View of Moderate Sedation. He impressively gave factual and complete details about the topic and it was indeed a helpful lecture giving the participants some useful insights about the background of moderate sedation.

The first lecture, Dr. Musaab Ahmed Mohammed Tom, relatively discussed about Pre-sedation Evaluation which also covers sub-topics such as Patient Selection, History and Physical Examination, Airway Assessment, ASA Physical Status Classifications as well as the Contraindications. This was definitely a lecture of great worth knowing that it was deliberately shared by the speaker himself.


On the other hand, Dr. Amin Hassan Mohammad Shani tackled the Pre-Procedural Preparation comprised of Fasting Time, Patients at Risk for Pulmonary Aspiration, Pre-medication, Equipment and Medication Checklist. He elaborated the necessary procedures needed for pre-procedural preparation.

Dr. Mutasim Ahmad Hammad discussed and elaborated the necessary steps to take when monitoring pulse Oximetry and capnography especially during the procedure.
Likewise, Dr. Mohamed Ali Shoman taught the participants on the important things to do and to remember when monitoring NIBP, ECG, and Temperature Sedation Level.
Right after the last lecturer, the participants then had their prayer and lunch break in order to retain their energy level and alertness as the activity heads on in the afternoon.
Thus, when all were assembled again, Dr. Musaab Ahmed Muhamed Tom, gave his lecture and profound discussion regarding Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Conscious Sedation Medications. It was followed by Dr. Mutasim Ahmad Hammad talked about Documentation.
Apparently, Dr. Khalidah Bikdash had a deliberate sharing of thoughts, ideas and facts about Management of Common Complications and extends the discussion on Post-procedural Care which includes Monitoring, Documentation and Discharge Criteria.

The first day activity was filled with the speaker's presentation of the latest findings in the field of medicine along with a detailed explanation of the expected complications and how to avoid it as well as its corresponding treatments.

On the second day, Dr. Mutasim Ahmad Hammad was the first to speak and discuss on the Policies and Procedures of the PSCCQ Standard of Care. He thoroughly spoke about the recent and standardized policies and procedures of the center. Demonstration workshop followed to allow the participants get indulge in the practical applications of what they have learned all throughout the course. This was jointly led and facilitated by Dr. Mutasim Ahmad Hammad, Dr. Musaab Ahmed Muhamed Tom and Dr. Khalidah Abdulqader Bikdash.

Ending up the activity was a post-course evaluation examination. This would attest and measure how much have they learned from the course. Accordingly, the event was successfully ended. Hence, everyone is looking forward to another similar event in the years to come.
