PSCCQ has successfully conducted training
about Disclosure of Patient’s Safety Event held last Wednesday, October 14,
2019 at KFSH Auditorium. This one-day activity was organized by Quality Management and Patient
Safety Department. There were around 80
attendees who participated in the event.
The program started off with a welcome address given by Dr.
Majeda Farajat, the Director of Quality Management and Patient Safety
Department. She was also the speaker of this said lecture. The lecture
comprised of many aspect related to disclosure includes the following: What
is disclosure?, When to conduct disclosure?, Determining the level of response, Who needs
to be informed if the level was identified as High or Low, Disclosure
barriers and among others.
The first session indeed has presented a lot of important
details regarding disclosure. This gives the chance for the participants to
widen their knowledge and enhance their skills when it comes to disclosure. The
lectures were definitely worth it and the time spent in attending the event
was never wasted because of the relevant ideas imparted to the attendees.
Furthermore, the activity continued with the Video
Presentation entitled “Why Disclosure and Apology is Needed? This was originally
from Dr. Lucian Leape of the National Patient Safety Foundation.
The video itself was enough to add more knowledge to the
participants and likewise this helped them extract the very main purpose and
the underlying reasons about why is there a need for a disclosure and
apology.
Moreover, the theoretical lecture followed by practical
demonstration wherein the participants engaged in small-role play with the
staff portraying as the patient’s family member and center disclosure team.
Participants were given the task of conducting a clinical disclosure to
assess how much have they learned from the lectures and how can they apply it
in a real scenario.
The activity was very engaging and interactive. The
participants actively interacted with the lecturers and willingly
participated in the workshop. They readily and gladly showed their mounting
interest in applying the disclosure process. The enormous response of the
participating guests is an indication that they duly recognized the event and
valued its importance.
The session was concluded by a Closing Remark from the Center
Director, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mesned. He also conveyed his sincere
gratitude to Dr. Majeda Farajat for generously sharing her time to conduct
the lectures. Likewise, he acknowledged the active participation of the
attendees. Nonetheless, he was grateful beyond words and happily contented
with the overwhelming success of the said event.
